Shane Black to Direct DEATH NOTE!!!!

How crazy is it that this news comes out the day of our Anime Live Action Adaptation show?

From SuperHeroHype:

Shane Black has been brought aboard the live-action adaptation of the manga series Death Note as a director, Deadline reports.

Black is best known as a screenwriter, responsible for Lethal Weapon, The Monster Squad and The Last Boy Scout (among others). He also made his directing debut with 2005's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, for which he also provided the script.

Also cool, Shane Black is a fan of the Manga!

From EmpireOnline:

“It’s my favorite manga,” he says. “I was just struck by its unique and brilliant sensibility, and we want to keep to what is so complex and truthful about the spirituality of the story, versus taking the concept and trying to copy it as an American thriller.”

Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry, also involved with Doc Savage, are writing the script with input from Black, and Dan Lin (The Departed, Sherlock Holmes) is among the producers.

All I can say is Awesome!!! I think Shane Black has the right diabolical touch needed for Death Note, and hopefully enough studio influence to keep the nature of the characters and the story true to the dark source material!

Nice job WB!

Listen to Geek World tomorrow at noon (PST) on www.925kyhy.com to hear our casting of Death Note!
