It was a great night at the Oscars, The Dude won his first Academy Award, Kathryn "Point Break" Bigelow was the first woman to ever win a Best Director Oscar (WHOA!!!), and Sandra "Speed" Bullock won her first award as Best Actress (WHOA!!! again), then totally raved about her sexy Bound-like friendship with Meryl "too awesome for a nickname" Streep.
With all the surprises and groundbreaking moments at the 82nd Academy Awards there was one special thespian who stole the show, this actor was brave enough to take the stage as one of his most beloved characters. Sean Penn, last year's Best Actor winner, presented the award for Best Actress as Jeff Spicoli, his breakout role from 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Somewhere between a modern day Brando and Andy Kaufman, his method approach was admirable-
"I never became an official memory of the Academy, but the Academy and I do have in common that we managed to n-n-n-n-n-neglect to acknowledge the same actress in our own ways nnn... 2 years running, so I...I...I... um...gonna start fresh with the Academy and and uh acknowledge these wonderful actresses, uh here are the nominees..."
I must say Mr. Penn's dedication to his craft is very Daniel Day Lewis-ian!
According to Geekin's sources, when giving Sandra Bullock her statue Penn said "Aloha, Mr. Hand!" and high fived the first time winner. He then went backstage where the pizza he ordered had just arrived.
UPDATE: The backstage scoop may be incorrect. We have just learned that Geekin's sources may have been a surfboard and a bus on the 405.
