We've been talking about what would happen to the Terminator franchise after the rights went up for grabs
and now we finally have an answer... sort of.
Lionsgate & Sony were duking it out and I think we all expected one of them to walk away with the rights but alas they (and all the other bidders) were out-maneuvered, out-bid, and outdone by Pacificor!
So, what the heck is Pacificor and what will they do with the franchise? I have no fracking idea! If I have my information right Pacificor is a Hedge Fund, that's right geeks & geekettes it's not a studio or a production company or even a really rich actor. These are not movie makers! We can only hope that they are a really geeky group that wanted to make sure that people could erase T3, Sarah Connor Chronicles, & Terminator Salvation from their collective consciousness and bring us back to the glory of Terminator and T2! Ahhh my wishful thinking.
So, Pacificor, I have no idea who you are and no idea what your plans are for the franchise but I have two words for you to consider:
Joss Whedon!
Sure he only offered $10,000 for the rights, but with ideas like musical and porn how could he go wrong? His "open letter" may have been a joke but Joss is one of the few people that has the potential to breathe new life into Terminator. So Pacificor, whoever you are, the ball is in your court! You could let someone like a Joss Whedon take the reins or you could do something really dumb like letting McG helm it.
Of course they may never do anything with the franchise. Maybe they just wanted to piss off the people at Lionsgate & Sony (and boy did they). So let's hope our Terminator is not lost forever and that Pacificor does the right thing (whatever that may be).
