REMAKES GALORE!!!!
I had to make sure this wasn't posted April 1st, cause for some reason I never thought I'd read the name Akiva Goldsmith in the same press release as The Toxic Avenger! Hey remakes, what are you going to do?
We saw Toxic Avenger not too long ago, and we were both shocked how awesome it was! The original was funny, cool, brutal, and had a lot of production value for a low budget film. Also, Lloyd Kaufman is a pretty decent director (or at least he was in the 80's)
It's funny that it seems like Avatar influenced the idea to do the remake:
Deadline New York says "the group intends to turn Toxie into a green superhero for these environmentally conscious times." The remake is expected to be a family friendly PG-13 action comedy.
The environmental stuff is funny but I'm OK with it (we are destroying the Earth and all, so maybe Toxie can go all Al Gore on us), but the last sentence really made me wonder if this was a belated April Fools joke. A PG-13 Toxic Avenger? Why not make a PG-13 Death Wish? A PG-13 A Boy and His Dog? A family friendly I Spit on Your Grave?
I mean the original had deranged teenagers running over children on bicycles for "points" (a clear homage to Death Race 2000) and then taking pictures with the small mangeled corpse so... Can't wait till the remake is a hit and every little kid sees the original!
