Hocus, Pocus, Focus...HERE
or this collection of quotes I grabbed from the sight from Susan:
"They’re using some high def thing that comes with guards and it’s beyond anything I’ve ever….They’re doing something where they’re layering film so that the front and the back are in focus like a cartoon and they’re also doing two dimensional and three dimensional stuff and mixing and everything is very, very saturated with some new kind of film, so they actually have to treat the actors in some way so we can hold our own with the background."
Sweet! Everything in the frame in focus? This sounds like really awesome new technology and the perfect example of a film maker(s) trying to pay aesthetic homage to the original movie (or in this case anime, or cartoon depending on how you look at it). I was already excited for the movie but now I'm over the moon. I know some people have been grumbling about this project, primarily because of the Wachowski's, but I think people aren't giving the Wachowski's the benefit of the doubt because of the Matrix sequels (particulary "Revolutions"), but heh, remember how amazing The Matrix was when it first came out? Also I don't think I've ever seen a technology or scene more ripped off, spoofed and homaged than the bullet time sequence in the first Matrix, so I have complete confidence that Speed Racer will at least look amazing. Whether or not the script is any good I have no idea, I know there's reviews of it online but I think I'll wait to see the final product, I still think it's more fun like that.
Thanks to Steve "Frosty" Weintraub from Collider.Com, and Moriarty from AintitCoolNews.Com for all of the info
